The Independent Board for Presbyterian Foreign Missions began its ministry in the Holy Land in the 1940s by establishing a church and medical work.

Property was purchased for a church in 1947 to work among the Arab Christians, and the Baraka Bible Presbyterian Church was established. The church today is indigenous with Arab leadership. It has weekly Sunday services, prayer meeting, Ladies’ Bible study, children’s classes and youth work. Kids to Kamp program at Beit El Baraka each summer has become an opportunity to reach the young people.

In December 1995 the Palestinian Authority extended its rule over Bethlehem which is part of the West Bank, where our mission property is located. The Arabs enjoy more freedom and an easing of the tension. Pray that God will help the Arab Christians as they face new complexities in their young nation.

Beit El Baraka, formerly a hospital established by Dr. Thomas Lambie in the late 1940s, received its license as a Pilgrim Youth Hostel in April 1995, after ten years of government paperwork. The spacious facilities with modest rates are available for local and foreign groups for camps, retreats and tours.

This Christian work is to bring souls to the Lord and be a blessing and encouragement to everyone that comes and uses Beit El Baraka (House of Blessing). We need your help and encouragement in support with your prayers and gifts. Christian tour groups are welcome and needed to help and encourage the work. Brochures are available from the Home Office in Philadelphia, or from Beit El Baraka in the Holy Land.

Joan Davenport has many years of experience and her knowledge of Arabic helps her in her diversified ministry in the Holy Land. She assists in the various church activities and evangelistic outreaches. In 1996 generous gifts from God’s people made it possible for Joan to buy a new van. She uses this vehicle to minister to the needs of children, and the disabled and elderly, by visiting in their homes, picking them up for services and shopping for them.

Joan is Director of Beit El Baraka with the overall responsibilities of administration, hospitality to guests, campers, tourists, and overseeing of the buildings and grounds maintenance. Pray for help to come and strengthen Joan’s hands and help in this Christian ministry for God’s glory.

Grateful appreciation is given to Miss Olwen Jones for her many years of help and association. We ask for prayer for her retirement in England.
